If you’ve ever found yourself staring at a blank calendar page or a single pink line while the rest of the world seems to be moving by at double speed, you know that infertility is rarely just a "medical condition." It’s an uninvited guest that takes up residence in your marriage, your bank account, your mind, and your late-night thoughts.

This week, from April 19–25, we observe National Infertility Awareness Week (NIAW). Founded by RESOLVE in 1989, this week is our collective chance to turn up the volume on a conversation that many people are still having in whispers.

Why the Theme "#MoreThan" Matters: Life through infertility

The 2026 NIAW theme is #MoreThan, and it’s a perspective we hold close to our hearts. Infertility is a diagnosis, but it isn’t a destination. It’s a chapter—often a grueling one—in a much larger story, your story.

If you're a patient of ours, you know we speak often about balance during an infertility journey. And, no, we’re not talking about what you need to eat, take, meditation, etc, we’re talking about balance between the fertility focus and the rest of life. We believe it is so important to live through this journey. Do the things that you love doing, take time for supportive friends, and your spouse. Laugh, play, and have the extra piece of cake or glass of wine (assuming you aren’t pregnant or it is otherwise contraindicated on your treatment). Remember why you want to bring a child in your family.

  • You are more than your diagnosis. Whether it’s PCOS, endometriosis, or the frustrating "unexplained," those labels don't define you or your worth.

  • Your journey is more than a protocol. It’s about the resilience you didn't know you had and the community you find in the most unexpected places.

  • Family is more than one specific path. From IVF and IUI to surrogacy, embryo adoption, traditional adoption, or finding peace in a child-free life, there is no "correct" way to build a meaningful future.

The Power of 1 in 6

The World Health Organization recently updated its data to reflect that roughly 1 in 6 people globally are affected by infertility. If you’re sitting in a crowded coffee shop or scrolling through your feed, look around. You are part of a massive, silent tribe.

NIAW is about breaking that silence to ensure:

  1. Access to Care: Moving toward a world where fertility treatments are accessible to anyone wanting a family.

  2. Education: Replacing "just relax" with actual science-backed information and advice and fundamentally stop language that blames women for their struggle.

  3. Community: Reminding anyone in the "two-week wait" or the "aftermath of a loss" that they don't have to carry that weight alone.

How to "Leave Your Mark" This Week

You don't need a megaphone to make a difference. Advocacy looks different for everyone:

  • Wear Orange: It’s the official color of NIAW, representing wellness, emotional energy, and warmth. Wear it on Wednesday as a badge of solidarity.

  • Share (if you’re called to do so): Use the hashtag #MoreThan to share a piece of your journey. Your "messy middle" might be the exact hope someone else needs today.

  • Check In: If you aren't going through it, reach out to a friend who is. A simple "I'm thinking of you this week" goes further than you know.

Final Thoughts

To those of you currently in the thick of it: we see you. We see the bravery it takes to keep showing up for your life when your heart is elsewhere. This week is for you. You are seen, you are supported, and you are—always#MoreThan your struggle.

What does the #MoreThan theme mean to you in your own journey?
